Wharfside – Point Pleasant, NJ

I have visited Wharfside a few times over the years when I am in Point Pleasant, New Jersey. If you like fresh seafood, this is a great place to visit.

It was a beautiful day, so we got a seat outside. This allowed for great entertainment as boats kept floating by.

While we were looking over the menu, the waitress brought over some fritters. These were like hush puppies. They were sweet and sprinkled with powered sugar. It was more like a dessert based on the taste, but I loved them, nonetheless.

We also got a small bowl of their homemade coleslaw. The cabbage was chopped up into nice small pieces. They used a lot of dressing that was slightly sweet. I like a wetter coleslaw.

I love Manhattan clam chowder and Wharfside is one of those restaurants in the area that serves it. It is a great vegetable broth that is seasoned perfectly with a hint of Old Bay. It is full of vegetables and fresh clams. The clams are very tender. The chowder had a wonderful savory flavor.

I also made sure to try some of the New England clam chowder. The chowder was super creamy. It was also loaded with fresh, tender clams. There was a comforting feeling to this chowder.

For my main dish I ordered the Baja Shrimp Bowl. This was like a salad on steroids. The fresh, grilled shrimp were placed on top of basmati rice, avocado, pico de gallo, shredded lettuce, black beans, and cheddar & pepper jack cheese. Then a chipotle aioli sauce was drizzled on top. I could not decide if I should mix all the ingredients together or eat it by each of the layers.

I started off eating all the shrimp. They had a great seasoning on them. There was no need for any other type of sauce. I could not place the seasoning, but it was almost like a mesquite, paprika type flavor. After all the shrimp were gone, I mixed all the ingredients together. The chipotle aioli really pulled everything together. The beans added a nice texture, and the avocado added a creaminess. The rice helped bind it all together and make it filling.

The meal was great. I really wanted more of those fritters as a dessert, however I was too embarrassed to ask for more. They would have been a perfect ending.

You cannot go wrong with the food and the view at Wharfside. I would still recommend visiting them if you are in the area. Check out their menu at www.wharfsidenj.com

Shore Fresh – Point Pleasant Beach, NJ

I love getting fresh seafood when I am near the beach in New Jersey. I was feeling like some homemade soup for dinner. That took me to Shore Fresh where they make homemade chowders and bisque’s every day.

Because of the indoor dining rules in New Jersey I had to get my order to go. That was ok by me. I was planning on eating down by the water so I could watch the boats and fishermen.

Shore Fresh has a variety of fresh caught seafood all on display. All of which would make delicious meals!

I ordered the Manhattan Clam Chowder. This is one of my favorites. They loaded up with tons on tender clams. They used lots of vegetables as well. All these ingredients worked so well in the savory broth. The chunks of potatoes were my favorite in the chowder because of all the flavor they absorbed. The clams were fantastic and could not be any fresher.

I also tried the Shrimp Bisque. This was extremely creamy. They chopped up the shrimp which made it a little easier to eat. There were a few vegetables in the bisque, but they were more of a flavor accent. They made sure to let the creamy broth stand out.

This fresh chowder and the ocean air were the perfect combination for dinner. It was a relaxing way to end a busy day. You should check them out at www.shorefreshseafood.com

Wharfside – Point Pleasant, NJ – Visit #2

I was looking forward to my second visit to the seafood restaurant Wharfside in point Pleasant, NJ. It was a nice evening along the water.

I ordered a sangria to start the evening. It was made with a dry red wine but the fruit and liquor they put in the wine helped make it sweeter.

The meal started off with several appetizers for the table. The tuna bites were the first thing out. The fresh tuna was blacked and served with soy sauce and wasabi. The tuna was seared on the outside and still pink on the inside. It tasted awesome with the soy sauce. The wasabi added a little heat.

The calamari were the second appetizer out. It had a great crispy breading on the outside. The calamari were extremely tender. The marinara sauce that they served on the side was the perfect accent.

The stuffed mushrooms were spectacular. They had a really crispy batter on the outside that created a great crunch and sealed in the heat. The inside of the mushrooms were stuffed with a crabmeat stuffing. This filling was delicious. The sweetness of the crab meat paired well with the earthy flavor from the mushrooms.

My meal came with a bowl of soup. I made sure to have the Manhattan clam chowder. The vegetable-based broth had the perfect amount of seasoning. They loaded the chowder up with fresh vegetables and lots of tender clams. It is the ultimate seaside soup.

I also got to try the clams casino. These fresh clams came out in their shells. They were baked with onions, peppers, and bacon. These clams were also very tender. The bacon gave them a salty and smoky taste.

It was now time for the main dishes to come out. I got the Canadian salmon. It was grilled up and topped with a caramelized rum glaze. The glaze accented the flakey salmon with an awesome sweetness.

They served a mashed sweet potato as a side dish. The combination of the rum glaze and the sweet potatoes was perfect. It was a sweet tasting side and the potatoes were so creamy.

If all this food wasn’t enough, a dessert came with my dinner. I got the homemade rum raisin ice cream. The ice cream was super creamy. It had a slight rum taste to it. There were a ton of raisins mixed throughout. It was the perfect end to the meal.

I am so glad I got to go back to Wharfside. The food was great and I did not leave hungry. Check them out at www.wharfsidenj.com

Lobster Shanty – Point Pleasant Beach, NJ

I was hanging out in Point Pleasant, New Jersey when I decided to check out Lobster Shanty. It is right there on the water but since I was there at night I could not see anything.

They had a nice selection of unique cocktails that I was excited to try. I went for the Cucumber Smoother, which was Effen cucumber vodka, St. Germain, and lemonade. This drink tasted very fresh. The flavor of the cucumber really shined through.

I also tried the Manhattan. It used Segram’s Seven and cherries. I took a few sips but it was a little too strong for my taste buds.

I ordered one of their appetizers to enjoy with my cocktail. The Filet Mignon meatballs sounded decadent and delicious. The meatballs were covered in homemade brown gravy that was extremely savory. The meatballs were soft and very moist. They did not even need gravy to be enjoyed, nevertheless the gravy helped step up the dish.

They also included mascarpone cheese to the bowl. The cheese did not add any additional flavor but it did add creamy texture to the gravy. These meatballs were absolutely wonderful, five stars for sure.

I could not leave without trying one more cocktail. I went for the Coconut Mojito. They blended coconut rum, mint, lime, a splash of Sierra Mist, and fresh coconut shavings were sprinkled on top. It was a sweet drink. It acted like a dessert for me since I had a salty/savory snack.

The Lobster Shanty had some great cocktails and the food I tried was great. I want to make sure I go back to try some actual lobster. Check them out at www.pointpleasantlobstershanty.com

Wharfside Restaurant – Point Pleasant Beach, NJ

I was visiting Point Pleasant, New Jersey and got to go enjoy happy hour at Wharfside Restaurant.

Since I was visiting in the winter I did not get to enjoy their outside deck. However, I was still able to enjoy the views of Manasquan Inlet from my table in the bar. They were amazing views.

Since it was happy hour I glanced over their menu of creative cocktails. I decided to start off with the Peach Fuzz Martini. This drink combined vodka, peach Schapps, orange juice and mango puree. It was not overly sweet. It had a nice subtle flavor of peach and mango.

I ordered the shrimp cocktail to enjoy with my cocktail. It is the classic appetizer. The shrimp were fresh and tender. They tasted wonderful in the homemade cocktail sauce.

Since the shrimp cocktail was just a small dish I ordered a cup of their Manhattan clam chowder. The vegetable soup broth was seasoned perfectly with a hint of spice that tasted like Old Bay. They loaded the soup with vegetables including big chunks of potato. They used a ton of clams in the soup as well. They were tender and cooked perfectly, not tough at all.

It was time for me to try another cocktail before happy hour ended. I wanted to try the Poison Apple Martini. They used apple vodka, cranberry juice, and a splash of Razzmatazz (which is actually raspberry schnapps). This was much sweeter than the first drink but still had a tart taste. I could taste the apple in each sip.

I decided to try one more of their soups, especially since it was cold outside. This time I went for a cup of the New England clam chowder. The broth was super creamy. They also used a ton of tender clams in this soup. It really warmed me up from the inside.

Wharfside Restaurant was a great place to go to for happy hour. They had great cocktail choices at reasonable prices. They also had a pretty good happy hour food menu. Check them out at www.wharfsidenj.com and see what they have to offer.

Enjoy!
