Flushing Ice Cream Factory – Flushing, NY

When we were visiting New York, we are looking for some ice cream. We found Flushing Ice Cream Factory. If you like tons of choices to choose from this was the spot. When we got to visit, we tried a few options. Pistachio is one of my favorites. The large pieces of pistachio nuts added a nice crunch throughout the creaminess. The Matcha was unique flavor. It had a slight earthy and bitter taste but it was toned down from the sweetness of the ice cream. You just keep eating and you don’t know why, but you can’t put it…

Kennedy’s – Breezy Point, NY

With great views overlooking the beach and water, Kennedy’s is the perfect spot to have lunch with family. Grab a refreshing cocktail and enjoy some fresh made rolls while you look over the menu. The Burrata is amazing. It comes with sun-dried tomatoes and truffle pesto. They serve crispy garlic parmesan crostini on the side. The burrata had a delicious creamy soft center. It was perfect to spread on the crostini or even the dinner rolls. The fried calamari is perfect  to enjoy at a beach side restaurant. They were lightly breaded and served with marinara sauce on the side.…

Ferdinando’s Focacceria – Brooklyn, NY

Whenever I travel to New York I make sure to have time to head to Brooklyn to visit Ferdinando’s Focacceria. They are a neighborhood Sicilian restaurant that has been serving up homemade dishes for over 100 years. They are an institution that almost everyone knows about them. I got there right as they opened, so I was able to get a seat right away. The first thing I did was order a cold Manhattan Special. This is a cold coffee soda that is on tap. It is refreshing and a great way to wake up. The stuffed artichoke was the…

Ferdinando’s Focacceria – Brooklyn, NY

I was so lucky that one of my favorite Italian restaurants in Brooklyn, Ferdinando’s, was open for business, while so many other restaurants were shut down. This is because they have a beautiful garden area at the back of the building. It was a warm, summer afternoon and they had a wonderful trellis that provided shade on each of the tables. The trellis was covered in thick grapevines with fresh grapes growing on them. To cool off I ordered some Manhattan Specials. Normally Ferdinando’s has this on tap, which tastes amazing. But because of Covid they were not able to…

Ai Fiori – New York, NY

Inside the Langham Hotel in New York City is a beautiful restaurant called Ai Fiori. It has won many awards and I was looking forward to enjoying an elegant dinner. It all started when a waiter came over with a tray of assorted breads.  I love fresh bread. I went for the olive bread and the sun-dried tomato bread. With the added ingredients, this bread was full of flavor. It was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I was able to eat it straight without adding any olive oil or butter. The Maitre’d’ brought over a welcome…

Keens Steakhouse – New York, NY

Keens Steakhouse is a famous restaurant in New York that has been around since 1885. Everyone who visits New York must go there at least once. It started as a smoking lounge. To this day there are wooden pipes lining the walls and ceiling around the restaurant. Back in the day smoking lounges were for men only but in 1905 they opened their doors to the first female patron. While looking over then menu, the waiter brought over fresh veggies (olives, pickles, carrots, and celery) along with a homemade bleu cheese dip. This was perfect to snack on while deciding…

Zia Maria – New York, NY

I was staying in the Chelsea neighborhood of New York recently and it was dinner time. I took a walk around the area to see what I could find. I came across a small Italian restaurant called Zia Maria. I popped in to see if they had a table and good for me they did. It was a cute little restaurant inside. It was perfect for me to get a quick dinner for myself. I saw they had arancini on the menu. Naturally I had to try these. Four little rice balls came out with a homemade pasta sauce. They…

KOI – New York, NY

It was a cold winter evening in New York and it was dinner time. I bundled up and headed over to the Bryant Park Hotel. Inside this beautiful hotel is KOI, an upscale Japanese restaurant. This place was packed because they are pretty popular. As always I had a reservation. You really can’t go anywhere in New York without one. The great thing about KOI is all their dishes are small so they are ideal for sharing. This also allows for tasting more things.  So first out was the Koi Crispy Rice. This was slices of rice that were deep…

Legasea – News York, NY

Well I am back in New York. It was time to try a different restaurant for dinner.  This time I checked out a little place called Legasea. If you like seafood, this is the perfect place to visit. I started off with a unique cocktail called The Layover. It sounded good with vodka, lemon, and lillet. Lillet is an aperitif wine, a blend of Bordeaux wine and citrus liqueur. It was very sweet. There was a great lemon taste. It reminded me of a lemon drop martini. It was a nice way to start the evening. The waiter brought out…

Estiatorio Ammos – New York, NY

I recently had dinner at a Mediterranean restaurant in New York called Estiatorio Ammos. Everything on the menu is supposed to be extremely fresh. This includes the fresh fish that are flown in daily. I was greeted by a few of these fish when I walked in and saw them on ice. The atmosphere inside the restaurant was electric. The place was packed, every table was full. I loved the décor on the walls. It was unique. Appetizers were the first thing I ordered. I made sure to pick some items that would be good to share around the table.…
